His speech titled “Just Do It” is a concept and philosphy I think most if not everyone should live by day in and day out. This speech was given at the National Religious Broadcasters convention in 1987.

I think this is probably one of the most memorable if not one of the top speeches ever given. In better words, you can make money or make excuses, but not both. Just do it. Enjoy the video.

We all live in the land of opportunity – the great US of A, yet most, if not all of us don’t see the opportunities presented right in front of our faces everyday. The very few that do see these opportunities take action and capitalize on that opportunity to better their life and gain freedom. Those that don’t, well, keep trekking on with life wondering “What is my life purpose?”

A favorite quote of mine sums up what I’m trying to get across in a simple yet powerful statement:

“Many a false step was made by standing still” – Pattie Labelle

What does this mean? Potential. Everyone has the potential to change anything in their life, it’s a matter of taking the first step or taking action. As Nike would say “Just do it”.

I will have to make a bold statement, and say that everyone’s greater plan in life is to fulfill your true life purpose whatever it may be, and to make other people happy while enriching the lives of the people around you. Everyone has a beginning and end, and as a living individual it is inevitable that one day our time will come to an end as well. As Jake Sully put it in the movie Avatar:

“All energy is only borrowed, and one day you have to give it back”

Do you want to be remembered or forgotten? Do you want to be remembered as the guy with a lot of money or the guy who enriched other peoples lives and paid it forward to those who were deserving after you die. That is up to you. I know when I die, I don’t want one person at my funeral. I want to leave a legacy and be remembered as the guy who changed other people’s lives.

To be able to see the opportunity around you, you must change your way of thinking. It’s a way to break past all the limits people put on themselves, and start living life the way it should be lived. You can do anything you want in life, and move past all the rules people have implemented, which are only “fake” rules hindering people from moving on. You can achieve anything you want. That is a fact. No one is holding you back saying “You have to do this”. There are two choices to every decision. And ultimately that decision is yours to make.

People say there are multiple “realities”, or in simpler terms other possible life paths – multiple worlds with different outcomes and events based from the decisions you made in life. But the one world you’re in is where your conscious is in this exact present moment – the now. Don’t ponder or regret choices you’ve made in the past, it will only put a bigger burden on your life. Concentrate on moving forward in the present and making the right choices so your future can be enjoyable.

Now what if you had the chance to go back to other life state or “world” to take back a choice or capitalize on something you wish you could have (i.e., invest in Microsoft or Google), to become rich. Would you take that initial step and take the risk? Who knows, everyone is afraid of failure. And failure is the one thing which limits most people from taking that initial first step. Don’t be afraid of failure, take it as a learning opportunity to improve upon.

The only thing school teaches you is how to work and survive. I don’t want to be working the rest of my life just to survive. I want to work on something I love and live a life of freedom.

To do this, one of the main things I will emphasis on is get outside of your comfort zone. Every single day you should do or try to do this, because there is nothing great you’ll ever achieve while inside your comfort zone. Think of all the great things you’ve accomplished or achieved. It was because you were outside of your comfort zone. And guess what? When you accomplished these goals of yours it was probably a feeling 1000 times better than what you thought it would be.

In parting words, here is a quote from Oscar Wilde:

“Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination”

Once again it has been a while since I’ve written in my blog, and I promise you this is the last time I’ll let it go this long without writing in it again. A lot has happened and my outlook on life has changed dramatically since I’ve graduated 10 months ago (wow time flies). If you don’t remember I wrote a post about “Taking the time to notice the things around you” explaining the future and possible responsibilities one would face when entering the real world, and how life without responsibilities is to often overlooked by ones selfishness. If I could, I would go back to school in a heart beat. Put it in more simpler terms, the real world sucks.

It’s funny how things your parents say to you when you’re younger actually start pertaining to your life 10, 15, or even 20 years later. Sayings such as “Don’t wish your life away,” “I’d rather be in school than working,” and the best being “Do you think money grows on trees?”. Yes life sucks in general, especially the real world. However, it’s the times when you have a smile on your face which you live for. You may be asking yourself why you’re living a life of misery, hate, and discontent when you’re only happy maybe 1/3 of the time. Well you don’t have to live your life in discontent if you start thinking positively.

Two years ago I thought I would have a successful business up and running with my brother and father and that I wouldn’t have to worry about paying bills, and that I would be traveling around the world visiting exotic places. But, I’ve only come to realize that none of this has taken place and things don’t always go the way you want them too. When I moved to San Luis Obispo to live with my brother Gregg I realized my life literally “sucks” (only in the mindset in which I dreamt it to be, I know my life is still really good compared to others). I didn’t get a job out of college and had to settle being a server at a sushi restaurant in Pismo (it pays the bills right?). First and foremost, if you’re not looking out for yourself you’re not going to get anything accomplished in life. Life is all about survival of the fittest – do whatever you can to survive.

The funny thing is that I keep telling my brother Gregg and father Steve that I’m never going to get a real job and that I’m NEVER going to do a real interview. Right now you’re probably thinking that I just contradicted myself and that I’m a hypocrite in what I’m trying to preach. Yes and no. Yes, I don’t have a job out of college because I didn’t look for one, because I still plan on living a free life doing what I love. One thing is for sure, I love money and whatever can generate a lot of money for me then that is what I’ll do. No, I’m not going to become an accountant, engineer, or investment banker. When I say that I’ll do anything which generates me a lot of money, I mean that it has to be something which I do on my own terms and not someone elses. That is the difference between me and most other people. I want the freedom to decide when I work and when I don’t.

Now, you may be telling yourself “Wow Glenn, money doesn’t buy happiness”. Well it does and it doesn’t. When I say money buys happiness, I’m saying it figuratively. That is, money buys you freedom to do whatever you want. Money will allow you to do things which only others dream of doing. I don’t mean money will buy my happiness in the literal sense, because it doesn’t. It will only buy me happiness in the things I enjoy in life. Real happiness comes from the heart and anyone can have that no matter how much money you make. The thing is that I want to be happy and FREE. See how that goes together? People without money can be happy in their hearts, but they can’t do what they want. You have to be free in order to be happy both in the literal and figurative sense.

Around my birthday I decided that I needed to stop being lazy and stop procrastinating on things I had planned out to do. Thus, I changed my typical mindset and started being more positive (saying that I’m going to change my life around and create the life I’ve always wanted). If you haven’t read or seen the documentary “The Secret” I really recommend doing so, as it talks about nature and the laws of attraction. You may call bull shit, but I think it works (sort of). I don’t believe that what you conceive in, actually forms in to reality however, I do believe that if you change your mindset into a more positive view that you can change the things around you. That is because you start acting differently and choosing different paths in your life which you other wise wouldn’t. Thus, creating and attracting things you wanted in life. It’s kind of funny how this works, because ever since February rolled around things in my life have been changing – for the better. I was presented an opportunity which can make me financially free possibly by the end of the year by a good friend back home, and I started living a more healthier / enjoyable lifestyle, as well as other things which have walked into my life, literally. I pretty much stopped drinking and partying, and just concentrate on the things which are important to me, mainly my health and well-being.

A couple of other changes I’m going to start implementing in my life is creating a to-do list every morning when I wake up and a goals list which I’ll post here when I’m done with it. I also want to start writing more frequently hopefully about once or twice a week in this blog. I’ll be updating it will cool things I find and thoughts I want to write down.

I don’t know about you, but I plan on living a free lifestyle where nothing is contingent and dictated by anyone elses decisions but my own.

“It’s Not Things, It’s The Things In Life That Are Important”
